Will improper ventilation void your warranty?

If an attic does not have sufficient intake and exhaust ventilation, this can cause composition shingles to fail prematurely. If insufficient ventilation is found to be the cause of shingle failure, the typical shingle manufacturer's warranty can deny your warranty claim. However, the typical shingle manufacturer's warranty will provide coverage for materials found to be defective (per the terms of the warranty) even if the attic is not properly ventilated "if" the material failure is found to be attributable to causes other than insufficient ventilation. Proper ventilation is very important, but we think you should be made aware that manufacturer's shingle warranties should continue to provide coverage for material failures on improperly ventilated roofs, so long as the failure is not found to be attributable to an issue with ventilation.
