Attention to detail is important
When applying asphalt shingles along a metal valley flashing, the upper corner of the end of each shingle (adjacent to the valley) should be trimmed to prevent water from migrating under the shingle courses. This procedure is quite simple to perform and often results in leakage if not performed. Yet, many roofing contractor's installers fail to perform this simple task, either because they lack the training necessary to be aware of this requirement or they simply choose to omit the extra attention to detail because it takes a little longer to perform the task properly. Regardless of the reason, numerous homeowners each year call on Larry Vaught Roofing to repair their leaking roofs (installed by others), and frequently the leakage is due to the original installer failing to properly trim the corner of the end of each shingle at valleys. The cost to properly repair the valley flashing on a roof is often much more than the difference between the lowest bid & the highest bid on a reroof project, so be sure to consider that your lowest bid may be the more expensive alternative.
