Water runs down hill
You would think virtually every roofer knows how to install the felt paper underlayment correctly, but this most basic component of the roof is too often installed incorrectly. The underlayment is supposed to be installed "over" the metal drip edge flashing along the bottom of the roof and "under" the metal drip edge flashing along the rakes of the roof. Yet we too often observe our "competitors" are installing the felt paper "UNDER" the drip edge along the bottom of the roof. Of course this is quite WRONG and will likely cause decay of the roof deck along the bottom of the roof and can potentially cause decay of the fascia and soffit as well. If these roofers fail to install the felt paper and drip edge correctly, it is hard to imagine they have the know how to perform the more challenging aspects of the roof's installation. Yet, roofs that fail to meet even the most basic fundamentals of installation often end up looking like a job well done. After all, the average homeowner doesn't typically know what to look for and simply judges the quality of the roof's installation based upon its general appearance. Unfortunately, there are countless "good looking " roofs out there that have significant installation errors. So, unless you plan on learning all there is to know about proper roof installation so you can supervise your next roof installation, we recommend you have the professionals at Larry L. Vaught Roofing do the job the right way, from start to finish!
