If you watch the news much, you’ve undoubtedly seen more than one story about a homeowner who paid a Roofing Contractor deposits up front and never saw the company return to do any work. The sad truth is it happens all the time! Consumers are simply too trusting and evidently there are a lot of contractors that just aren’t trustworthy! In most instances I don’t believe consumers should EVER agree to pay a roofing contractor deposits. However, there are two instances I can understand why a contractor could reasonably expect a deposit. One instance is when a contractor must custom order products or materials for a particular job. In those situations, were the customer to default for any reason, the contractor could be stuck with product or materials he may not be able to use elsewhere. A deposit would help protect the contractor from being out-of-pocket for any custom products or materials he may not be able to use on another job. The other instance a deposit may be justified is when the contractor is concerned that a customer may be unable to pay for the job. In those situations a contractor may wish to protect themselves from a potential bad credit risk by demanding a portion or even all of the proceeds in advance. However, in most instances I firmly believe a deposit is simply not justified and ill advised! After all, if a contractor needs a deposit from you in order to afford the materials for your job, that company obviously does not have enough working capital or credit to be bidding your project. In virtually all instances you would be better off to avoid the risk and worry of paying an advance deposit if you can.

The safest choice is to deal with a professional who doesn’t need your hard earned money up front to fund their operations. We rarely ask for a roofing deposit and when we do it is typically because of one of the two reasons just mentioned. Larry Vaught Roofing has been serving the area since 1967. We fund all of our projects with our own working capital and you may rest assured we do not need a deposit from you to fund our operations. So let Larry Vaught Roofing provide your roofing and guttering needs and eliminate the risk of being ripped off by one of those guys who needs your money up front before he will even consider showing up later to do the work.
